The historic building “Vienna”, which is currently located at 2-4 Egnatia Street, was built on the site of the church of Agia Kyriaki, in the period 1929-1931, according to the plans of the architect Georgios Campanellos.

It originally consisted of 3 floors and 55 rooms, while it was one of the most popular hotels of the time, hosting important personalities of the political and artistic life. During the Second World War the building was commandeered by the Germans and the Commandant was housed there, while the basements of the building became a place of torture. After the liberation of Thessaloniki, the building was briefly occupied by ELAS, who used it as a headquarters. In 1995 it was converted into an office building, while from 2012 to 2020 the emblematic building housed a private college.

The building is a typical example of eclecticism with absolute symmetry in the axes and openings, false parapets that visually divide the building into zones and Ionic capitals, while by decision of the Ministry of Culture it has been designated a preserved building.

The architectural renovation study of the building seeks both to restore its original use as a hotel, and to highlight it as an architectural and historical monument of the wider area of the western entrance of Thessaloniki.
Upon completion of the project, the new hotel with a total area of 3,000m2 will have 82 rooms, a restaurant, cafe, bar, gym and wellness center, multi-purpose center, as well as a roof garden with an open-air bar.
