The historical hotel Lakonis, have received high end guests of the Greek and international artistic scene vacationing there, is being renovated into a luxurious 5* hotel. After 1993 it started to decline and was finally abandoned. Corrosion from moisture and weather reduced the buildings to near ruins.
For the renovation of the Bungalows, static reinforcement was necessary. The first difficulty was that the plot is located on a very steep slope. Thus, adding pools in front of the rooms becomes impossible, as large retaining walls would appear under the pools, irreparably injuring the landscape. For this reason, it was chosen along with the strengthening of the buildings to incorporate new stronger foundations on the front side of the building, which hold the pools in a cantilever that expands for more than 5 meters. This design approach was agreed by the team to fit with the original design of the hotel, thus proceeding with this dynamic and bold intervention in the buildings and the laconic landscape.
